How to apply for LMIA Jobs in Canada
What is the Morden’s Community Driven Immigration Initiative?
The Morden Community Driven Immigration Initiative, or MCDII, supports eligible candidates who plan to apply through the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program Strategic Initiative pathway. Morden can provide selected candidates with community support that helps them enter the MPNP process.
MCDII remains a relatively small program. Morden states that it supports approximately 50 families each year, representing roughly 5% of the applications it receives. Selection therefore remains competitive even when an applicant meets the minimum requirements.
As of August 2026, Morden continues to accept applications and does not publish a fixed application deadline. However, the city warns that its requirements and priority occupations can change.
MCDII Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must generally meet the following requirements:
- Be 21 to 45 years old.
- Complete at least a one-year post-secondary education or training program that resulted in a diploma, certificate or degree.
- Meet MPNP settlement-fund requirements.
- Show a genuine intention to live and work in Morden.
- Submit a valid approved language test taken within the previous two years.
- Have qualifying work experience.
- Have experience in a current priority occupation, work for a Morden employer, or hold a qualifying Morden job offer.
Morden gives priority to applicants who do not have stronger connections to other parts of Canada through previous employment, education, relatives or friends.
Work Experience Requirement under Morden Immigration
Applicants must meet one of the following work-experience conditions:
- At least two years of work experience during the previous five years in their occupation; or
- At least one year working for the same Morden employer while holding a work permit.
Applicants should provide accurate employment records because Morden considers occupational experience when choosing candidates.
Language Requirements
Every applicant must submit an approved language test, even when English or French is their first language. Morden currently applies the following minimum Canadian Language Benchmark levels:
- TEER 0–1: CLB 7 in each language ability
- TEER 2–3: CLB 5 in each language ability
- TEER 4–5: CLB 4 in each language ability
Accepted testing follows MPNP requirements and can include approved IELTS General, CELPIP, TEF Canada or TCF Canada results. Morden requires results that remain valid and were taken within the previous 24 months.
Settlement Funds
Applicants must prove that they have enough available money to establish themselves and their families in Manitoba.
The MPNP currently requires at least $10,000 for the principal applicant plus $2,000 for each accompanying family member in most cases. Applicants who use an Express Entry profile must instead meet the applicable IRCC proof-of-funds requirement.
The funds must remain available to the applicant and cannot consist of borrowed money.
Is a Job Offer Required?
A Morden job offer is not required for every MCDII candidate. However, the current priority rules significantly limit applicants without one.
Candidates who do not currently work in Morden or have a Morden job offer generally need experience in an occupation that Morden currently prioritizes. Candidates in other occupations can qualify when a Morden employer already employs them or has offered them a qualifying position.
A job offer may also allow Morden to waive the exploratory-visit requirement.
Exploratory Visit Requirements
MCDII generally requires supported applicants to complete an exploratory visit to Morden. The visit allows applicants to research the community, prepare for the MPNP process and decide whether Morden suits their long-term settlement plans.
Morden may waive the exploratory visit for candidates who have:
- A formal job offer from a Morden business;
- A strong family connection combined with local labour-market attachment;
- A strong family-like connection and employment attachment in a priority occupation; or
- Practice-ready physician or nurse credentials.
The purpose of an exploratory visit is not simply to find employment. Morden expects candidates to learn about the community and prepare for settlement.
Morden Priority Occupations in 2026
The current official MCDII priority occupation list has changed significantly from older versions.
Physicians – NOC 31102
Morden currently prioritizes physicians who meet its licensing and language conditions. The program requires IELTS scores of 7 in each band and currently targets physicians educated and fully licensed in the United States, United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia or New Zealand.
Registered Nurses – NOC 31301
Registered nurses also remain a priority. Morden requires IELTS General 7 in each band and gives preference to nurses who have practised in the United States, United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia or New Zealand because they may have access to faster Manitoba licensing routes.
French Teachers
French teachers currently qualify as another priority group. Morden requires at least CLB 5 in both English and French, along with the professional requirements needed to teach in Manitoba.
Other Occupations
Candidates working in other occupations may still qualify when they:
- Currently work for a Morden business as a temporary foreign worker;
- Have a current job offer from a Morden employer; or
- Hold a unique or specialized role that could provide substantial economic, cultural or social benefits to Morden.
Applicants without current Morden employment or a Morden job offer must fall within occupations identified in the community’s current Labour Market Outlook and priority rules.
